Like many parts of your body, your neurotransmitters go to sleep when you sleep so your nerves can’t send a signal to your brain that you need to sneeze even if there is an irritant present. It’s a good thing, too, because otherwise, you’d be sneezing a lot since the mucous membrane swells during sleep.
