Heroin was invented by Heinrich Dreser, the same man who invented aspirin and when it was first marketed in 1898, it was recommended as a pain reliever stronger than morphine and a cure for colds. In short, it was labeled a wonder drug. In 1913, after numerous reports of heroin users becoming ‘immune’ and addicted to the drug, the production of heroin was discontinued.
