Julius Caesar – Biography Book

Julius Caesar was a leader in the Roman Republic. He led the people and the armies as a Roman general, statesman and consul. He was instrumental in the fall of the republic and the rise of the empire.

  1. Caesar’s father suddenly died when Caesar was 16 years old. He was automatically elevated to the head of the family.
  2. Caesar’s inheritance, his priesthood, and his wife’s dowry were all taken away when his uncle Gaius Marius lost in a civil war with Lucius Cornelius Sulla.
  3. It was after his priesthood was taken away by Sulla that Caesar joined the army.
  4. Caesar was kidnapped by Cilician pirates. When the ransom was paid and he was released, Caesar took a fleet of ships and caught the pirates. He had most of them crucified.
  5. Caesar invaded Britain twice. The first time he retreated to Gaul as the winter set in. The second time he was forced to retreat when food shortages meant he was needed on the continent to quell expected uprisings.
