American Black Bears…

The American black bear is the smallest bear species found in North America, and also the most common species in the world. Not all black bears are truly black, though — their coat colors range from black to brown to white, though white-coated black bears are very rare.

Black bears are omnivorous animals. For meat they are mostly able to kill deer, elk and moose. They like to eat in private, and so usually drag their prey to somewhere secluded. They strip the skin of large prey and pull it inside out, and leave the skeleton intact. They will sometimes even cover the leftovers of large prey, though not very often.

The adult males prefer solitude and are very territorial. Only females are seen with the cubs, which go their own way when they are about a year and a half old.
