Of the more than 700 survivors of the Titanic, one was a Japanese named Masabumi Hosono, a civil servant working for the Ministry of Transport. He survived by boarding Lifeboat 10 but was fired and called a coward when he returned to Japan because he survived instead of dying an honorable death with the other doomed passengers.
