When some horned lizards are threatened, they are able to restrict the blood flow from their heads. This causes the blood vessels around their eyes to rupture and as a result, they can shoot out a stream of blood that can cover a distance of five feet! The blood not only confuses the predator but is foul-smelling enough to make the predator go away, though the tactic mysteriously doesn’t work against birds.
