Catherine the Great wasn’t Russian.

Catherine the Great was, in fact, the daughter of a Prussian prince who was invited to St. Petersburg when she was only 15. Her name wasn’t Catherine, either, but Sophie, only getting the name ‘Catherine’ after her marriage.
