Human brains now think of smiley faces or emoticons 🙂 as real faces!
Test subjects were shown smiley face punctuation and just meaningless punctuation. Their brains responded to the smiley face punctuation in the same areas that a human brain responds to a real face.
The man behind this research, Australian researcher Owen Churches, said:
“This is an entirely culturally-created neural response. It’s really quite amazing.”
