Have you ever seen a cat fall on its back? Even if you have, cats land on their feet most of the time, even if they are falling from an object that’s just a foot tall. They are born with what is called a ‘righting reflex’ – an ability to automatically orient their bodies correctly as they fall. This ability is made possibly by the fact that cats have very flexible backbones and the absence of a rigid collarbone.
