In 1748, centuries after the catastrophic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD, explorers stumbled upon a well-preserved city of Pompeii. The buildings were intact. The bodies were like sculptures, frozen in time. Even loaves of bread were found inside the houses even though they should have already rotted.
